Colin NIBP technology: Dynamic Linear Deflation
NIBP Technology
Colin, as a professional medical brand, has been the developer of innovative technology for Non Invasive Blood Pressure (NIPB) measurement. This technology is integrated in our patient monitors and also provided as a NIBP module to various medical devices manufacturers.
Colin NIBP technology: Dynamic Linear Deflation
To accurately measure a patient's blood pressure, Colin created a technique to deflate the cuff at a controlled rate according to the patient's heart rate. It assures the number of oscillations used to create the envelope on which Systolic, Mean and Diastolic pressures are determined. Thanks to this optimised deflation, you will always have a reliable measurement with less pain for the patient due to avoiding repetitive measurements.
Furthermore, Colin has been one of the pioneers as integrator of other "vital sign" measurement leading technologies.
Colins mission is to reduce the medical accidents while providing more comfort for patients. We are reducing the risk inherent in vital sign monitoring by providing non-invasive, safe and high technology products to medical institutions.
Colin's patient monitors fit well with hospital wards, emergency departments and clinical needs due to its compact and easy-to-use design.
What should I do before taking a measurement?
Make sure you always follow these steps before taking a measurement. For at least 30 minutes prior to taking your measurement do not eat, smoke or exercise. Rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes prior to taking your measurement. Don't take a measurement after physical activities or during stressful times. Take the measurement in a quiet place.
What method of blood pressure measurement is used in Omron Blood Pressure Monitors?
| Omron digital blood pressure monitors use the oscillometric method of blood pressure measurement. This means the monitor detects your blood’s movement through your brachial artery and converts the movements into a digital reading. An oscillometric monitor does not need a stethoscope so the monitor is simple to use. | |
What can I do to lower my blood pressure?
Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit, fresh vegetables, potatoes and rice. Avoid animal fats and use less salt. Try to drink less alcohol and exercise more. If you smoke, stop. If needed, your doctor will also prescribe suitable medication.
What is the accuracy of Omron’s Blood Pressure Monitors?
All models of Omron’s blood pressure monitors are clinically proven accurate. Pressure is plus or minus three millimeters of mercury or two percent of reading. Pulse is plus or minus five percent of reading. This meets or exceeds the AAMI standards. AAMI is the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
 What causes high blood pressure?
Many things, often linked to modern living. Among the most common are obesity, over-indulgence in alcohol, smoking, lack of exercise and the stress of modern life, although high blood pressure can also be hereditary.
What are the standard Blood Pressure Classifications
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) jointly developed the following blood pressure classification. This classification, however, this is only a general guideline because your optimum blood pressure depends on your age, morbidity, and treatment strategy by a doctor. Consult your doctor to determine your optimum blood pressure.
| Range | Systolic blood pressure | Diastolic blood pressure | | Normal | between 100 and 140 | between 60 and 90 | | Mild hypertension | between 140 and 160 | between 90 and 100 | | Moderate hypertension | between 180 and 180 | between 100 and 110 | Severe hypertension
| higher than 180 | higher than 110 |
What are the long term risks of high blood pressure?
Without treatment, high blood pressure can lead to numerous health problems including heart attacks, circulatory problems and kidney failure. It is also one of the most common causes of strokes.
What are the symptoms of high blood pressure?
The trouble with high blood pressure is that usually, there are no symptoms. The best idea is to ask your doctor for a check-up, or use a personal blood pressure monitor.
How do I know if the arm cuff is wrapped too tight or too loose?
If the cuff is wrapped too loose or too tight, you may get an inaccurate reading or error message. We recommend you apply the cuff using the following directions. First, make sure you have removed any tight-fitting clothing from your left arm. Put your left arm through the cuff loop. The bottom of the cuff should be about one-half inch above your elbow. Turn your arm so your palm is facing up. Adjust the cuff around your arm so that the tubing runs down the center of your arm. Secure the cuff so it stays in place. You should be able to fit one finger between the cuff and your arm. This space is imperative for an accurate reading. Omron's digital blood pressure monitors use the oscillometric method of blood pressure measurement that detects your blood’s movement through your brachial artery and converts the movements into a digital reading.
 What exactly is blood pressure?
The heart creates pressure in order to pump blood around the body. The level of this blood can vary depending on the heart's rate of work and the resistance in the blood vessels.
Is there any difference in blood pressure values between wrist and brachial measurement?
Wrist and brachial blood pressure values of those suffering from disease If the position of your wrist is not at the level of your heart, the blood pressure values change due to the weight of the blood itself. The blood pressure values drop when the wrist is positioned higher than the level of your heart. On the other hand, when the wrist is lowered, the blood pressure values increase. (A variation of approximately 8 mmHg is observed with height difference of 10 cm.) Brachial and wrist blood pressures usually do not show great differences before and after eating or drinking. If you take a hot bath, the dermal vessels contract temporarily and blood pressure elevates. However, if you take a warm bath for relaxing, peripheral vessels expand and blood pressure lowers. Wrist blood pressure tends to drop more than brachial blood pressure for the latter.
